Description
Balancing props is essential in electric flight. You cannot assume that a manufactured prop is already balanced. The Great Planes balancer featured here is simple and effective. You insert the propeller between the two cones and do them up finger tight. You then hold the balancer shaft between your thumb and pointer finger holding the pointy ends just firm enough to allow the prop to rotate. The heavy blade will drop to the bottom. You need to sand the top surface of this blade with very fine sand paper until it balances.
Instructions for folding props – Assemble the blades in the centrepiece with the bolts supplied. Tighten the bolts until the blades are stiff to move in the centrepiece. This will help to hold the blades straight. Two cones are screwed up on to the prop to hold it in the middle while you pivot the whole unit between thumb and finger to test balance. To achieve balance sand the face of the heavier blade. Once balanced slacken the bolts so the blades just swing freely – make sure that the blades can swing both forwards and backwards easily. It is essential that you balance all props intended for electric flight use.
